History

The Southern California Breakers women’s football team was established in 2007 by a group of veteran players who wanted to continue to provide women the opportunity to play football in Southern California.  Prior to establishment, the Breakers were known as the Orange County Breakers; a team that completed three seasons in the Western Conference of the National Women’s Football Association (NWFA).  During that time the Breakers played an exhibition season, losing only one game, then completed its second season undefeated with eight wins, before finishing its third season with five wins and three losses.

In 2008 the Breakers continued to pursue the path to success by competing against other well established teams in the Pacific West Division of the IWFL.  While the Breakers outscored the opposition 140 - 105 against the California Quake, Las Vegas Showgirlz, Tucson Monsoon, New Mexico Menace and Redding Rage, the team broke even with a record of four wins and four losses.  Despite our record, the season was considered a huge success!

2010 proved a difficult year for the Breakers, who sustained a number of setbacks early in the season. Regardless, a creative offense and tireless defense forced each of our competitors, the Tucson Monsoon, SoCal Scorpions, Bay Area Bandits, Modesto Maniax, California Quake, and Los Angeles Amazons, to play hard every second of the game. In addition to a well-deserved victory over the Monsoon, the 2010 Breakers were proud to set a number of individual league records and to name three players and one coach to the IWFL West All-Star Team.

Now in our seventh season, the Breakers are returning with new management, a new coaching staff, a base of committed veteran players, and a large and passionate rookie class. With this solid foundation laid, the Breakers are poised and ready to regain their position as the premier women’s football team in the West.
